***Dream Big! Make Magic! Make a Difference!***
“I want to burn with the spirit of the times. I want all servants of the stage to recognize their lofty destiny . . . Yes, the theatre can play an enormous part in the transformation of the whole of existence.”
― Vsevolod Meyerhold
The Texas Educational Theatre Association invites submissions of paper proposals for the second annual Academic Symposium at its 2016 Annual TheatreFest Convention! While special consideration will be given to submissions intersecting with the determined theme of “Dream Big! Make Magic! Make a Difference!,” scholarly research presentations focusing on any topic relating to all aspects of theatre studies are welcomed. Topics can include but are not limited to:
• historical instances in which theatre or theatre practitioners “made a difference”
• biographical investigations of playwrights
• dramatic criticism
• practice and production
• theatre pedagogy at the college/university level
• theatre and popular culture
Please email abstract proposal submissions in Word format to the Academic Symposium Coordinator, Ms. Rebecca Worley: Rebecca.worley@tamuc.edu. Proposals should include name, affiliation, and email address, along with the title of the paper, a 150-250 word abstract, and a brief bio.
Scholars, teachers, graduate students, professionals, and others interested in the scholarly inquiry of theatre-related topics are encouraged to participate. Undergraduate students and/or graduate students who have never presented scholarly work at a conference should submit to the “Scholar’s Debut Panel” (call sent separately).
The 2016 T.E.T.A. TheatreFest Convention will be held in Dallas, Texas, at the Dallas Hyatt Regency. Further details regarding the convention (hotel, registration, etc.) will soon be posted at http://www.tetatx.com. (Please note, however, that prospective Academic Symposium participants should not submit proposals through the “workshop proposal” link on the website at this time.)
All abstract proposal submissions must be received via email by October 23, 2015, for acceptance consideration.
