PlayFest

David Crawford

The deadline is closing in on you new and old playwrights. It’s high time to prep those scripts you’ve been working on all summer and send them to me by . . . (drum roll)  . . . October 1. For a complete description of guidelines go to the TETA web site and click through Main Menu to Committees to Playwriting to PlayFest. You’ll find that there are three categories: High School, College, and Other Texas Resident. If you don’t fit into any of those categories, I really want to meet you!
“PlayFest”, TETA’s Playwriting Competition’s principal objective is to encourage the writing and production of new plays.

The purpose of PlayFest is as follows:
  • To encourage and promote the study of playwriting by all.
  • To encourage and promote the writing of new plays.
  • To provide a clearing house for the reading and evaluation of new plays in a working and teaching environment.
  • To provide greater incentive to playwrights by establishing a working relationship between professionals, educators and playwrights.
  • To produce new play productions. This may include staged readings, workshop productions, and new play seminars, annually at the T.E.T.A. TheatreFest Convention.

The PlayFest Committee’s chief aim is to provide feedback. October has become a very busy month for the committee and I want to publicly thank:
Erik Archilla, Norman Bert, Dr. Marion Castleberry, Linda Daughtery, Lauri Davis, Nikki Erickson, Emit Hall, Dr. Charlie Hukill, Ryan Ingrim, Jan Jones, Karen King, Shelley O’Neil, Matt and Victoria Perry, Clarence Strickland, and Michael Ward.
They will be reading scripts and providing critiques for all scripts. The deadline for completion is November 1 when the winners will be notified and thus have time to provide a staged reading at the 2012 TheatreFest in Houston.
