SummerFest

Summer is just around the corner, and you know what that means…SummerFest! Those of us at the Elementary level especially look forward to SummerFest because we get so many ideas for the year to come. This year, the conference will be held at San Antonio College. I plan to eat as much Mexican food as possible while I am there! The college will provide all participants with internet access, so be sure to bring your laptop, smartphone, iPad, Kindle, or other favorite piece of technology.

You will want to register for SummerFest by the early bird deadline. This guarantees you a t-shirt and a bag full of goodies, such as a binder, printed workshop schedule, pens, pencils, etc. TheatreFest had a huge number of participants register on-site which caused issues with providing everyone with the conference materials. We can only guess at how many people will register on-site, and that’s is always a gamble. Go ahead and register now so you don’t forget later as the semester continues to get fast and furious!

A Facebook page has also been created to make sure that the workshops this summer are better than ever. Be sure to join “SummerFest Friends” if you haven’t already. Post any ideas for workshops or questions regarding the conference itself. If you have never been to SummerFest, you will be excited to know that the conference is laidback, casual, and much more hands on. Without a student in sight, us teachers can get our hands dirty learning from each other. Be sure to bring a pair of closed-toed shoes in case of any construction workshops.

We would love to have you present at SummerFest. Any lesson plan ideas, projects, production problems and solutions can easily be turned into workshops. You can also get with a fellow teacher to present together. You know you came up with great ideas this school year. Don’t keep them to yourself. Share them with the rest of us in a workshop. You can download a workshop proposal form on the TETA website.

When you are at SummerFest, be sure to attend the Elementary Interest Group meeting. The purpose of this meeting is to provide you the opportunity to express any concerns, questions, or ideas you may have and how TETA can help you do your job better. This organization is here for you, but we can’t help, if we don’t know what you need.

The K-12 Board is always open to volunteers; so if you are willing to help, you can post what your special talents or interests are on the Facebook page. We can’t wait to see you this summer!
