TheatreFest 2016 and UIL

It’s time to re-energize as you start the UIL OAP, Design and Film season. It’s time to visit with old friends and make new ones. It’s time to reinforce what you know, rediscover what you knew and best of all learn something spankin’ new. There are workshops for all levels of experience! From the teacher who never had a theatre course being asked to direct the UIL OAP for the first time, to the teacher with 50 years of directing experience, to the University professor who has judged UIL OAP for over 30 years, in the words of Pseudolus in A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum, we have something for everybody!!

As UIL Theatre Director, this is the first thing I recommend to new teachers and administrators who call me about training. I attended my first TETA convention 40 years ago. I was a college student. I can easily say that this annual event provided me with opportunity to meet and learn from Texas’ best. I was educated, enlightened and inspired. I met life-long friends and colleagues there who mentored me through situations that involved curriculum and art. This year’s TheatreFest will be no different.

The UIL will offer A-Z workshops on creating the OAP entry when you don’t have a theatre or theatre program from Lindsay’s Scott Tipton. Find out how to make the most out of the scenic rules from AM Designs’ Aaron Copyright Law and find out the ins and outs of music, image and film usage. The TTAO and UIL will co-host a Meet the State Judges session to honor and interview the 18 individuals selected to judge our 90th State Meet.

Back by Popular Demand! TETA will gather the directors with the most wins in UIL history for a “talk show” format workshop. Hear from these directors who have had a consistent history of making it to the State Meet. Q&A opportunities will make this an exciting session.

Those of you sponsoring UIL Film will find no shortage of workshops on every aspect of film production. Twelve workshops over two days will help you in your classroom in producing the best documentaries, narratives and narratives you can.
